Stock

Background

Sometimes a horse pulls on a human so hard, for no discernable reason, that nothing matters except insuring the horse is safe. This is Stock's story. He was posted on the kill lot in Colorado as a 4-year-old stud, not sound in front. At the same time there were two other studs in the pen, making it a totally chaotic situation. In posted videos, Stock kept to himself, doing his best to stay out of the hubbub. He also showed lameness in the hind as well. His gentle personality pulled the heartstrings as tight as they would go, and we made the decision to pull Stock out. We have no idea what we're going to do with him, long-term...yet.

Rehabilitation Plan

Stock has a foster situation he is going into immediately. There, he can have some stress-free downtime and we can better assess what is causing his lamenesses.

Our first order of business is to find this gentleman a respectable name!

Once we have him settled in, he will not be asked to do anything but rest and heal, while an eye is kept on the hind end, in particular. X-Rays may be needed (probably!), corrective trims are in the plan. Making sure he can handle himself appropriately so we don't need to cause more pain and stress in the hind by gelding until we can get a feel for what is going on already.

When he has recovered enough to travel, we will bring him home and make a plan. Right now, our little buddy just needs to get better.

Generally About Stock

Not much more can be said about Stock at this time--we have only taken possession five days ago, as of this writing. He is still in Colorado awaiting his ride to foster. Once he arrives in his foster home, we will have more information to share.

    Our Needs

Stock really, really needs a sponsor. He will have veterinary expenses coming up, corrective farrier expenses, and these costs are not covered by our foster homes. If you can help, PLEASE donate or consider sponsoring him for three months.

Stock also needs a name! If he is sponsored, the first sponsor gets naming rights. Otherwise, feel free to send along suggestions!
